Drive the Turton's Track Loop

You will need to set aside a day to drive the loop from Apollo Bay on The Great Ocean Road to Lavers Hill, and inland to Tanybryn via Beech Forest and back to Apollo Bay via Skenes Creek.

The road from Beech Forest to Tanybryn (Turton's Track) has recently been sealed making it a much safer and enjoyable experience. Only a short way out of the township on your journey around the loop is an enchanting short walk at Maits Rest where you can see enormous native eucalypts in a pristine temperate rainforest.

Just a short detour out of Lavers Hill and you reach Melba Gully, a small surviving remnant of dense rainforest in the Great Otway National Park. During the day this is a perfect setting for picnics and bushwalks among ancient mossy trees and giant tree ferns. Visit Melba Gully after dark to experience the unique spectacle provided by the large colony of glow worms living in the banks beside the walking tracks.

Spend a couple of hours at the famous Otway Fly Treetop Walk and breathe the clearest air you can imagine at waterfalls like Triplet Falls right next to it. The Otway Fly now boasts a Zip Line; a unique eco-wilderness adventure and the first of its kind in Victoria. Enjoy a picnic along the Aire river near Forrest and see giant Californian Redwoods and other surprises.

Just off the sealed road to the south are the magnificent Hopetoun Falls which are well worth a visit. The viewing platform at the car park offers a view of the roaring water as it pounds into the Aire River.
